Restorative Care for the Postpartum Journey

Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up and greet the day as if you’ve just had the best night’s sleep of your life? (Well, pre-baby / motherhood anyway!)

Wouldn’t it be nice to welcome the day’s activities with joy? (Sure, a nice cup of coffee can definitely help, but how long does it really last?)

Wouldn’t it be nice to plan something supportive just for you? (We know you’ve been dreaming about that massage you were gifted at your baby shower!)

We think so too!

Introducing… “Restorative Care for the Postpartum Journey!”

Short-term options for moms and families who are looking for some reprieve, an opportunity to reset, and a way to gain some new perspective when life can otherwise be overwhelming.

That’s right! There’s no need to enter into a long care contract (Although we have those too!) And there’s absolutely no need to feel guilty about taking care of yourself. In fact, you absolutely SHOULD take care of yourself! Rather, allow others to meet your care needs so you can be at your very best for yourself and your family.

Imagine for a moment the following scenarios…

A) Your Nighttime Nanny comes to your door just before 9pm. She greets you with a smile, asks you about your day, and prepares to spend the next 8 hours caring for your baby. You’ll fill her in on your baby’s needs and any helpful tips you’ve come to recognize in your baby (some of which will have been discussed ahead of time), then you’ll introduce the two of them and let them be. Yes! You’ll hand your baby over to a loving, knowledgeable doula who will tend to your baby’s needs while you sleep. That’s right! You’ll sleep. Your baby will get fed, changed, and snuggled WHILE YOU SLEEP! You wake up in the morning not sure what just happened, but completely loving the fact that it did. You feel more clear-headed. You have a new outlook on the day. Your baby is none the wiser, but you know having a good stretch of sleep has made all the difference.

B) You’ve just had your baby. It was a few weeks ago, or maybe it’s been a few months now… You’re not quite sure, that postpartum baby brain has taken over. In any case, you’re still getting used to life with a new little one. As much as you promised yourself that you’d have it all together, as much as you were told you could get it all together, as much as you wanted to be able to complete everything on your “to-do” list, it just hasn’t happened. It’s frustrating. It may even be causing some anxiety. You’re doing your best, but you’re starting to see dishes pile up, laundry to be folded, dust bunnies growing into bobcats… You just can’t quite get on top of things. And that’s okay! You’ve just added a new person to your family. It takes time to get to know them. However, today it just feels like too much. Not to worry! Your Postpartum Doula is on her way! You contacted her the day before. You knew she was coming and that has somehow made the morning a little easier. When she arrives, she greets you with love in her eyes. She’s been where you’re at. She knows what to do. She checks in with you and then tells you to go sit down, put your feet up, and grabs you something to drink. She fixes you a snack and goes to work. Before you know it your house is tidy, you’ve been fed, you’ve rested, your baby has been tended to, and you feel refreshed.

C) Everyone keeps talking about this thing called self care. You know the concept, but in reality, can’t quite understand how to make it work. You used to do it all the time. That was before you became a mom. Your baby isn’t that old. (You might even have a toddler or other children too.) You’re still getting used to being a new mom. Your body isn’t the same as it used to be. You don’t take time for yourself like you used to (Bathroom break, anyone??!!) Forget about eating the way you’d like. Grabbing something quick is the way to do it these days. You’re beginning to remember those acupuncture sessions you were doing in the last weeks of your pregnancy. Those felt SO GOOD. You’ve been thinking about scheduling one again, but the logistics of it just isn’t working out. What would you do with your baby? Could you really enjoy yourself if you took him/her with you? Could you enjoy yourself if you left him/her at home with someone? (Here’s where your doula comes in!) A friend of yours told you about a Sibling Doula who will take care of your baby (and other child/ren) while you get out of the house, take a break, and practice some self care. You see she has an opening coming up that coincides with your acupuncturist’s schedule. You make the appointment! You feel excited knowing you’re able to reset your body and brain while your baby is in good hands. Not only that, but this gives you hope for more opportunities like this in the future!

Introducing our… “Self Care Sitter!”

Now how does that sound?? We’re pretty excited! We pride ourselves in addressing the needs of our community head on. This offering came out of an expressed need and our ability to be innovative in our offerings. As a professional team of doulas, we’re not only trained and knowledgeable in our field, but we’re also seasoned moms who’ve been there. (Some of us are still weaving our way through the postpartum journey!) We understand the need and the value in this service to other moms and their families. We’re here to help! Even if it’s just one night, one afternoon, one appointment. We get it.

Dates for our Restorative Care services will be opening at the end of August! Be sure to check back in with us to schedule your visit with one of our doulas. In the meantime, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss how we might be able to support you and your family!

Much love!
